Yike Zhang Biography

Yike Zhang is a composer based in Toronto and New York. She received her masters degree from the Manhattan School of Music, and she is a doctoral candidate at the University of Toronto, where she teaches undergraduate composition minor lessons and music skills classes. She has been composer in residence for the University of Toronto symphony orchestra, saxophone ensemble, percussion ensemble, and tenor-bass choir. Her music organically combines Western musical techniques with traditional Chinese elements. The fluidity and resonance of impressionism and post-spectralism are the vitality of her music. Her works are performed in China, America, and Canada, with performances at the Atlantic music festival,  Orford music festival, Asian Classical Music Initiative International Conference, Graduate Center of the City University of New York, and she had a full-length concert entirely of her work at Columbia University. She recently gave invited guest lectures at the Graduate Center of the City University of New York and South China Normal University.
